The Heart Valve Disease Patient Council is an initiative of the Global Heart Hub, an alliance of heart patient organisations, that provides a voice for those affected by cardiovascular disease. Members of the Heart Valve Disease Patient Council are patient organisations focussed on heart valve disease.
The European flagship event of the Patient Council is Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week. This initiative has developed following an inaugural European Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day on September 8th, 2018.
European Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week aims to improve diagnosis, treatment and management of heart valve disease in Europe. The 2019 European Awareness Week will take place from September 16 – 22, and in the future will run every year during the third week of September. This Awareness Week follows the example of the US, where the first awareness day was introduced on the 22 February 2017 by the Alliance for Ageing Research.
